The following picture from Halberstadt shows a mechanical shunting signal for the cross-over in the middle of the platforms. One can also see a starting signal inside the station, a rare occurrence in Germany:

This can no longer be seen out there: A locomotive driver visits the telephone box near a signal to ask why the train is stopped there. When I took the photo, the signal had already been reversed to "clear". Unfortunately, I do not know the location of this signal:
